The Strategy Development for base construction of Bio-Medical Informatics Research

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose : The purpose of strategy development is a construction of SRM (Strategy Road Map) for Division of Bio-Medical Informatics, Center for Genome Science at KNIH. The strategy provide a differentiation of research work between this division at KNIH and other bio-medical informatics organizations. The division of bio-medical informatics will has very clear own research role and central mission for bio-medical research and data treatment as a national research organization.
Methods :
1. Present situation of bio-medical informatics research
- Present situation of World and Korean bio-medical informatics research centers
- Current status of division of bio-medical informatics at KNIH
- Opinions of external bio-medical informatics specialists
2. Construction of Mid-long term strategy for bio-medical informatics research
- Investigation for the construction of the mid-long term strategy road map, vision and
mission, future organization, cooperative system, operation related law, research direction etc.
Results : Identity as a central bio-medical research organization, future evolution of team toward research center, recruitment of good researchers and education for better scientific study, and expansion of infrastructure for future central bio-medical research organization.
Conclusions : The Division of Biomedical Informatics has very important mission of current and future genomic researches through the utilization of biomedical informatics. Based on human genome information, it constructed a strategy road map to develop their own role, function and size for in silico computational researches including not only genetic analysis on genome, transcriptome or proteome but also clinical and environmental epidemiology. The division also has to activate the distribution of data and information collected from the genetic and epidemiological studies by the
Center for Genome Sciences of the NIH in the future.
